COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Chemistry programme provides a detailed scientific foundation in chemistry alongside its application to forensic investigation and criminal justice. In the first year, students study core chemical principles through modules such as Organic Structure and Function, Inorganic Bonding and Solid-State Materials, Physical States of Matter, and Spectroscopic and Chromatographic Analysis. These are supported by Professional Development and The Forensic Process, which introduce students to the role of science in legal investigations. In the second year, students build on this foundation with more advanced study in Organic, Inorganic, Physical, and Analytical Chemistry, alongside Forensic Casework Examination, which applies chemical knowledge to real investigative scenarios. Optional modules such as Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Photography or Introduction to Suspicious Death Investigation allow students to explore specialist forensic areas. In the final year, students focus on Advanced Chemistry and Advanced Chemical Analysis, supported by an independent research Project. They also choose from advanced subject-specific modules including Advanced Inorganic, Organic, or Physical Chemistry, as well as applied forensic options such as Drugs of Abuse or Advanced Crime Scene Investigation. The programme develops strong analytical, laboratory, and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates for careers in forensic science, analytical chemistry, toxicology, and related scientific roles within law enforcement, government agencies, and research laboratories.
