COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Financial Mathematics programme develops strong mathematical, statistical, and financial skills to prepare students for careers in finance, analytics, and related industries. In the first year, students build a foundation in core mathematical and financial concepts through modules such as Calculus, Data Analysis, Introduction to Linear Algebra and Computation, and Introduction to Discrete Mathematics and its Applications. These are supported by introductory studies in economics, finance, and accounting, helping students understand how mathematics applies to real-world financial decision-making. In the second year, students progress to more advanced topics including Differential Equations, Probability and Statistical Inference, and Discrete-Time Financial Mathematics. They also explore Mathematical Enterprise, which applies mathematical thinking to practical problems, alongside optional modules such as Linear Algebra and its Applications or Cryptography and Computational Complexity, and financial options like Corporate Financial Analysis or Financial Management. In the final year, students focus on advanced and applied topics including Continuous-Time Financial Mathematics, Medical Statistics and Financial Modelling, and Project and Professional Skills. They further specialise through optional modules such as Stochastic Processes, Optimisation, Machine Learning, Corporate Finance, and Investment and Portfolio Management. The programme develops strong analytical, problem-solving, and computational skills, preparing graduates for careers in banking, investment analysis, actuarial science, data science, risk management, and quantitative finance, where advanced mathematical modelling and financial expertise are essential.
