COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Film Technology programme develops students into skilled technical professionals for the film and screen industries by combining practical production training with creative and technical knowledge. In the first year, students are introduced to core concepts through modules such as Approaches to Film, Digital Workflows, Craft Skills and Technologies, and Storytelling and Production, which provide a foundation in how films are created and how technical processes support storytelling. In the second year, students build more advanced skills through Film Technology 1 and Film Technology 2, alongside a Co Lab module focused on research, experimentation, and creative risk-taking. They can also choose from optional modules such as Storyboarding: Visualising the Story, Motion Graphics, Digital Matte Painting, Music Video, Sound Art & Design, Open-source 3D Art, Fashion Photography: Cover Shoot, and Prop Making, allowing them to explore specialist areas within film production and related creative industries. In the final year, students focus on professional practice through Film Crew Collaboration, advanced Film Technology study, and Enterprise and Entrepreneurship: Personal Portfolio, which supports career development and industry readiness. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools and workflows while working collaboratively on production projects. The programme prepares graduates for careers in cinematography, editing, post-production, visual effects, production technology, and other technical roles within film, television, advertising, and digital media industries.
