COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Environmental Science programme provides a comprehensive understanding of how natural systems function and how human activities impact the environment. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Principles of Environmental Science, Principles of Ecology, Biodiversity Conservation, Global Environmental Issues, Geodiversity, and Weather and Climate. These modules introduce key concepts related to ecosystems, Earth systems, environmental processes, and global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss. In the second year, students develop more advanced knowledge and practical skills through modules including Introduction to Research, Law and Policy, Environmental Monitoring and Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Technical Skills, Sustainability, and the Global Climate Emergency. These subjects focus on environmental analysis, data collection, policy frameworks, and sustainable solutions to global environmental problems. In the final year, students complete an independent Dissertation and study advanced topics such as Pollution and Remediation, Energy for a Low Carbon Future, and Natural Resource Management. They can also choose optional modules including Applications of Remote Sensing, Marine and Freshwater Ecology, and Ecology and Development Mitigation, allowing them to specialise in areas of interest. Throughout the programme, students combine theoretical knowledge with practical fieldwork, laboratory investigations, and research experience. This prepares graduates for careers in environmental consultancy, conservation, sustainability management, climate science, environmental policy, and other roles focused on addressing environmental challenges and promoting a more sustainable future.
