COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Data Science programme is structured to develop students’ expertise in data analysis, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven decision-making through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation in computing and data science through modules such as Foundations of Computer Programming, Foundations of Computer Technology and Mathematics, Programming for Data Science, Fundamentals of Data Analysis, Systems Analysis and Design (SAD), and Academic and Professional Development. These modules introduce essential programming, analytical, mathematical, and professional skills required for working with data. In the second year, students expand their knowledge through Practical Project Management and Professional Development, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Analytics Techniques and Programming, Information and Database Engineering, Probability and Statistical Inference, and Data and Information Security. These subjects focus on advanced data processing, statistical methods, database management, AI concepts, and the protection of information assets. In the final year, students apply their learning through a major Project and advanced modules including Distributed Database Engineering, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence. Students can also specialise further by choosing an optional module in Information Systems Management, Applied Statistics, or Communicating Science and Technology. Throughout the programme, students develop strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills while gaining practical experience in extracting insights from data and building intelligent systems. Graduates are well prepared for careers in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, business analytics, and related technology fields.
