COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science programme provides a comprehensive education in software development, computing systems, and emerging technologies, equipping students with the skills required for careers in the technology sector. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in computer programming, computer technology, mathematics, systems analysis and design, and academic and professional development. These modules develop essential technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and an understanding of how computing systems are designed and implemented. During the second year, students expand their expertise through modules in information and database engineering, software design and implementation, systems software, project management, and professional development. They also gain an introduction to artificial intelligence and machine learning, developing an understanding of technologies that are increasingly important across industries. Students can further specialise by choosing modules in internet application programming or software engineering. In the final year, students undertake an individual project, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a substantial real-world computing challenge. Advanced modules cover analysis and design, artificial intelligence, and service-centric and cloud computing, providing insight into modern software and computing environments. Additional options in advanced software engineering, information systems management, mobile platform applications, and distributed database engineering allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Throughout the programme, students develop strong programming, analytical, research, and project management skills, preparing them for careers in software development, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, database management, systems analysis, and other computing-related fields.
