COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Games Technology) programme combines fundamental computer science principles with specialised knowledge in game development, graphics, and immersive technologies. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in programming, computer technology, mathematics, systems analysis and design, and academic and professional development. These modules develop essential technical and analytical skills while introducing the core concepts of software engineering and computing systems. During the second year, students focus on specialist areas of games technology through modules in graphics programming and algorithms, games development systems, digital 3D design, software design and implementation, systems software, and project management. These subjects provide practical experience in creating interactive digital content, developing game systems, and understanding the technical processes behind modern game development. In the final year, students undertake a major project that allows them to apply their knowledge to a substantial independent piece of work, often reflecting real-world industry challenges. Advanced modules in 3D simulation programming, virtual reality, and mobile platform applications enable students to develop immersive and interactive experiences using modern technologies. Students can further tailor their studies by choosing between serious games, which explores games for education and professional applications, or advanced software engineering. Throughout the programme, students develop strong programming, problem-solving, design, and project management skills while gaining experience with industry-relevant technologies. These capabilities prepare graduates for careers in game development, virtual reality, simulation, software engineering, mobile application development, and other technology-driven industries.
