COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) programme provides a comprehensive education in computer science while developing specialist expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and intelligent systems. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation in programming, computer technology, mathematics, systems analysis and design, and professional development. These modules develop essential technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills that underpin modern computing. During the second year, students focus on key areas of artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies through modules in artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analytics techniques and programming, information and database engineering, software design and implementation, systems software, and project management. These subjects provide practical and theoretical knowledge of how intelligent systems are developed and applied in real-world environments. In the final year, students undertake an independent project that enables them to investigate and solve a substantial computing problem using advanced techniques. Core modules in distributed database engineering, artificial intelligence, and cognitive computing provide deeper insight into intelligent systems, data management, and computational approaches that mimic aspects of human reasoning and decision-making. Students can further specialise by choosing from modules such as expert systems and knowledge engineering, service-centric and cloud computing, advanced software engineering, or mobile platform applications. Throughout the programme, students develop expertise in programming, data analysis, machine learning, and intelligent technologies while strengthening their research and professional skills. These capabilities prepare graduates for careers in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, software engineering, cloud computing, and other advanced technology sectors.
