COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering programme provides a strong foundation in the principles, design, construction, and management of civil engineering projects while developing the practical and analytical skills required for a professional career. In the first year, students are introduced to key engineering concepts through modules in civil engineering design projects, sustainable engineering materials, engineering surveying, structural engineering, and mathematics. These subjects establish essential technical knowledge and problem-solving skills that underpin civil engineering practice. During the second year, students broaden their understanding of the industry by studying civil engineering construction, construction practice and the environment, engineering skills, advanced engineering mathematics, ground engineering, and structural engineering. These modules focus on the design, analysis, and construction of infrastructure while highlighting environmental considerations and professional engineering techniques. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation and work-like project, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a substantial research or industry-related challenge. Additional modules cover management and transportation studies, advanced structural engineering, ground engineering, water resources, and environmental engineering, providing a deeper understanding of the factors influencing modern infrastructure development. The programme also includes professional responsibilities and development, helping students understand the ethical, legal, and managerial aspects of engineering practice. By combining technical expertise, project experience, and professional skills, the course prepares graduates for careers in civil engineering, construction management, infrastructure development, consultancy, transportation, environmental engineering, and related sectors, as well as further professional study.
