COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biological Sciences BSc (Hons) programme provides students with a broad and flexible education in biosciences, allowing them to explore multiple scientific disciplines while developing strong practical and analytical skills. In the first year, students build a foundation in biological sciences through modules covering biology techniques, biological systems, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, physiology, and microbiology. These subjects introduce the essential scientific concepts needed to understand living organisms and biological processes. During the second year, students strengthen their professional and research skills while studying advanced topics such as biomolecular structure and function. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning in areas including neuroscience, ecosystems, biodiversity, physiology, microbiology, genetics, and metabolism. This flexibility enables students to follow their personal interests and career goals within the biosciences. In the final year, students focus on modern scientific challenges through modules such as applied bioinformatics, One Health, and an independent research project. Additional optional subjects explore areas including infectious diseases, immunology, virology, biodiversity conservation, cancer biology, neuroscience, and evolutionary genetics. Throughout the course, students gain valuable laboratory, research, and fieldwork experience that reflects real scientific practice. Overall, the programme prepares graduates for careers in research, healthcare, biotechnology, environmental science, and other bioscience-related industries.
