COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biochemistry BSc (Hons) programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the molecular and chemical processes that support life, health, and disease. In the first year, students build a strong scientific foundation through modules covering biochemistry, living systems, molecular principles, pharmacology, genetics, immunology, and practical biological techniques. These subjects introduce the essential concepts needed to understand how biological systems function at a molecular level. During the second year, students develop more advanced knowledge in areas such as metabolism, biomolecular structure and function, clinical biochemistry, and molecular genetics of human diseases. Practical laboratory work and applied molecular bioscience modules help students strengthen their analytical, research, and technical skills while exploring how biochemistry is used in medical and scientific practice. In the final year, students focus on contemporary scientific challenges including health and degenerative diseases, cancer biology, cell signalling, evolutionary genetics, and bioinformatics. A major research project allows students to apply their scientific knowledge independently and gain valuable experience in experimental design, data analysis, and critical thinking. Throughout the course, students gain practical laboratory experience and an understanding of how biochemistry contributes to healthcare, biotechnology, and scientific innovation. Overall, the programme prepares graduates for careers in research, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, biotechnology, and related scientific industries.
