COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animal Biology BSc (Hons) programme provides students with a broad and detailed understanding of animal science through a combination of theoretical learning and practical experience. In the first year, students develop core scientific knowledge in subjects such as animal physiology, husbandry, behaviour, nutrition, reproduction, genetics, and pathogen biology. These modules help students understand how animals function, interact with their environment, and maintain health and wellbeing. During the second year, the course expands into more advanced topics including disease investigation, epidemiology, applied animal breeding, behavioural physiology, animal cognition, and nutritional health. Students also gain research skills through an introduction to scientific research methods, preparing them for independent study and professional work. In the final year, students focus on specialised areas such as applied animal nutrition, adaptive physiology, anthrozoology, and animal genetics, while completing a dissertation project that develops critical thinking, research, and analytical abilities. The programme emphasises the relationship between animals, humans, health, and the environment, while also promoting understanding of animal welfare and modern scientific practices. Overall, the course equips students with the scientific knowledge, practical skills, and research experience needed for careers in animal science, research, conservation, animal welfare, and related industries.
