COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Sport Engineering programme provides a multidisciplinary education that combines engineering, technology, and sports science to develop innovative solutions for sport and human performance. In Year 1, students establish a strong foundation in engineering through modules covering engineering science fundamentals, mathematics, technical computing, electronics, innovation, and engineering solutions. They also gain an understanding of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, enabling them to explore how the human body functions during physical activity. In Year 2, students expand their technical expertise through the study of digital systems, computer engineering, engineering modelling, simulation techniques, and industrial design. Practical learning is enhanced through an integrated group design project, while specialist modules in sport technology and experimental biomechanics and physiology provide valuable insight into the relationship between technology, performance, and human movement. In Year 3, students focus on advanced topics including performance engineering, experimental methods in human performance, and a major group engineering design and optimisation project that develops problem-solving and professional skills. A range of optional modules allows students to tailor their studies to specific interests, including sensors and embedded electronics, human factors engineering, sustainability in engineering design, Industry 4.0 technologies, and mechanical engineering in sport. This comprehensive curriculum equips graduates with strong analytical, technical, and design capabilities, preparing them for careers in sport technology, product development, engineering innovation, biomechanics, and performance-focused industries.
