COURSE CURRICULUM

The Architecture BArch (Hons) programme develops students’ creative, technical, and professional understanding of architecture through a balanced combination of design practice, contextual study, and environmental awareness across three years of study. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in architectural design, communication, representation, technology, and environmental principles. Through project-based learning, they develop creative skills while exploring spatial, cultural, and historical contexts alongside the fundamentals of building production. During the second year, students strengthen their understanding of how architecture connects with cultural influences, environmental considerations, and related professional disciplines. Integrated studio projects encourage an interdisciplinary approach, combining design thinking with technology, sustainability, and contextual studies to create more complex and informed architectural solutions. In the final year, students further refine their creative and critical abilities through advanced design studio work and professional practice studies. The course explores important contemporary issues such as global sustainability, ethical decision-making, multicultural living environments, and modern architectural challenges. Students also develop a deeper understanding of technology and environmental design while preparing for professional architectural careers. The programme concludes with a Degree Show exhibition where students present their final work and showcase their skills to industry professionals. Overall, the course prepares graduates with the creativity, technical expertise, and professional confidence needed for careers in architecture and the built environment sector.
