COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Visual Effects Art programme provides a comprehensive education in the artistic and technical processes used to create visual effects for film, television, animation, and digital media. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Principles of Screen Art, Introducing VFX Compositing, Introducing 3D Digital Art, and Animation and VFX Studies. These modules introduce essential concepts in digital image creation, compositing, visual storytelling, and screen-based art while developing core creative and technical skills. In Year 2, students begin to specialise by choosing either Progressing VFX Compositing or Progressing 3D Digital Art, allowing them to deepen their expertise in a specific area of visual effects production. They also undertake the Visual Effects Art Studio module and participate in collaborative research and experimentation through Co Lab: Research, Exploration and Risk-taking. A range of optional modules enables students to expand their creative capabilities in areas such as storyboarding, character design, motion graphics, digital matte painting, motion capture, prop making, virtual production, and open-source 3D art. In Year 3, the programme focuses on professional development and advanced creative practice through modules including Visual Effects Professional Futures, Visual Effects Art Project, and Screen Arts Collaboration. These experiences help students build a professional portfolio and prepare for careers in visual effects, animation, digital media production, film, television, and other creative industries.
