COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Textile Design programme offers a creative and flexible curriculum that enables students to develop technical expertise, innovative thinking, and a strong understanding of contemporary textile design practices. In Year 1, students establish a solid foundation through modules in Design Fundamentals and Reflection and Textile Fundamentals and Specialisms. These modules introduce essential design principles, creative processes, textile techniques, and specialist practices while encouraging experimentation and personal development. In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge of the textile sector through modules such as Textile Industry and Contexts and Textile Innovation and Transitions, which explore the commercial, cultural, and technological influences shaping the industry. The Co Lab module encourages research, collaboration, creative exploration, and risk-taking across disciplines. Students can further personalise their studies through a wide range of optional modules, including 3D Materials and Exploration, Trend Forecasting, Buying and Merchandising, Creative Entrepreneurship, Fashion Styling, Ecological Futures, Natural Materials, and Craftsmanship. These options allow learners to develop specialist interests while expanding their creative and professional skills. In Year 3, students focus on Creative Practice and Theory, bringing together the knowledge, techniques, and experiences gained throughout the programme to develop an individual body of work. This final stage supports the creation of a professional portfolio and prepares graduates for careers in textile design, sustainable design, creative industries, product development, and a variety of related artistic and commercial fields.
