COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Professional Policing curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of policing, criminal justice, and law enforcement through a progressive three-year structure. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation through modules such as The Role of the Police, The Criminal Justice System and Crime Investigations 1, Problem Solving and Decision Making, Criminology for Policing, and Police Powers 1. These modules introduce the responsibilities of police officers, the operation of the criminal justice system, investigative processes, criminological theories, and the legal powers available to law enforcement professionals. In Year 2, students build on this knowledge through modules including Public Protection, Crime Investigations 2, Evidence-Based Police Intelligence and Community Policing, and Police Powers 2. This stage focuses on safeguarding vulnerable individuals, advanced investigative techniques, intelligence-led policing, community engagement, and the application of police powers in more complex situations. In Year 3, students explore contemporary policing challenges through modules such as Digital Policing and Counter Terrorism, Front Line Policing, Police Powers 3, and a Research Project. These modules develop expertise in responding to modern threats, managing frontline policing responsibilities, conducting independent research, and applying advanced legal and operational knowledge. Throughout the program, students strengthen their analytical, investigative, communication, and decision-making skills, preparing them for careers in policing, law enforcement, public safety, and wider criminal justice professions.
