COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Media and Film & TV curriculum combines the study of media, film, and television to develop students’ critical understanding of visual culture, media industries, and creative communication. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules that explore media texts, media industries, film and television styles, and key concepts and debates in film and television studies. Students also examine themes of identity and personal agency while choosing optional modules that enhance media literacy or broaden their understanding of international cinema. In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge of media theory, society, and practical film and television production. They can tailor their studies through a range of optional modules covering intercultural communication, language and social justice, British cinema, British television, film programming, popular music analysis, media research, and short film production. These modules encourage both critical analysis and creative practice. In the final year, students undertake a major independent project in either media or film and television, allowing them to explore an area of personal interest in depth. Additional modules examine topics such as American cinema and television, cult and alternative film, consumer culture, media production, and representations of the body in popular culture. Together, these modules develop strong analytical, research, creative, and communication skills, preparing graduates for careers in film, television, media production, broadcasting, journalism, marketing, communications, and the wider creative industries.
