COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) International Relations curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of global politics, international cooperation, and contemporary world issues while allowing them to tailor their studies to their personal interests. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules covering international relations theory, global history, international governance, media influence, practical political engagement, and research skills. These modules introduce key concepts and develop the analytical abilities needed to understand complex international challenges. In Year 2, students explore the global political economy, gain career-focused experience, and develop applied social research skills. They can also choose from a variety of optional modules covering topics such as security studies, postcolonial politics, environmental policy, foreign policy, intercultural communication, and the relationship between politics and culture. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation, allowing them to conduct in-depth research on a topic of their choice, while also studying leadership, activism, and political campaigning. Additional optional modules enable further specialisation in areas such as globalisation, feminism, political violence and terrorism, negotiations, Middle Eastern and North African politics, Eurasian geopolitics, emerging Asian powers, global popular culture, and foreign language study. Together, these modules develop strong research, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, preparing graduates for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, public policy, media, and global affairs.
