COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) History with International Relations programme combines historical study with the analysis of global politics to help students understand how past events and international systems shape the modern world. In the first year, students study core history modules such as Europe since 1789: Revolution to Referendum, Making History, History Matters, and America 1607–2020: From Colony to Superpower, alongside International Relations modules including An Introduction to International Relations and International Relations and Global History. These provide a strong foundation in both disciplines and their connections. In the second year, students develop more advanced analytical skills through The Historian’s Craft, History in Action, and Global Political Economy of Everyday Life. History optional modules include topics such as Fascism Past and Present, Money Matters: Finance Past and Present, and The Northern Ireland Troubles… and Beyond. International Relations options include Security Studies, Global Politics of Post Colonialism, Environmental Politics and Policy, and Understanding Foreign Policy. In the final year, students complete a History Major Project and study Representing History and Leadership, Activism, and Campaigning. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as Political Violence and Terror, Global Politics of Pop Culture, Feminist Thought and Praxis, and Geopolitics of different regions. The programme builds strong research, critical thinking, and communication skills, preparing graduates for careers in politics, diplomacy, government, journalism, and international organisations.
