COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Health and Social Care programme develops students’ understanding of health, wellbeing, and social support systems, with a strong focus on addressing inequality and improving outcomes for individuals and communities. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Health & Society, Current Issues in Health and Social Care, Social Policy, Inequalities and Social Justice, Effective Communication Skills, Preparing for Practice, and Human Growth and Development. These introduce key concepts in health systems, social structures, and professional communication. In the second year, students develop practical and analytical skills through Developing Real-World Research Skills, Managing Health and Social Care, Becoming a Health and Social Care Professional, and Person Centred Interventions. Optional modules such as Engaging with Vulnerable Groups, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Health, Social Care and Crime allow students to explore specialist areas of interest. In the final year, students focus on advanced study and leadership through Practice-Informed Research and Leadership in Health and Social Care. Optional modules including Children’s and Young People’s Mental Health, Young People and Social Care, Health Promotion in Practice, Global Health and Development, and Ageing in the 21st Century provide further specialisation. The course prepares graduates for careers in social care, community support, health services, policy development, and related fields, equipping them with critical thinking, research ability, and professional practice skills to work effectively in diverse care settings.
