COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design programme develops students’ creative, conceptual, and technical abilities in visual communication, preparing them for a wide range of roles in the design industry. In the first year, students build foundational skills through The Fundamentals of Graphic Design and Design in Context, which introduce core design principles and encourage an understanding of how visual communication operates within cultural and professional settings. In the second year, students expand their knowledge through Exploring the Graphic Design Industry and Design in Context II, alongside Co Lab: Research, Exploration and Risk-taking, which promotes experimentation and collaborative practice. A range of optional modules allows students to specialise in areas such as Publishing: Experimental Formats, Typography: Use and Expression, Telling Stories, Motion Graphics, Ethical Design, Digital Marketing and Communication, Exploring Creative Coding, and Drawing & Exploring with Natural Materials. These options help students refine both traditional and digital design skills while exploring contemporary creative approaches. In the final year, students focus on independent practice and critical reflection through Developing a Personal Portfolio and Design in Context III: Dissertation. The programme emphasises the creation of a strong professional portfolio, enabling students to showcase their individual design identity. Graduates are well prepared for careers in branding, advertising, editorial design, motion graphics, publishing, and digital media industries, combining creative innovation with technical expertise and critical thinking.
