COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Games Art programme develops students’ creative, technical, and conceptual skills for producing visual content within the games industry. In the first year, students are introduced to core foundations through modules such as Games Studies, Principles of Screen Arts, Introducing 2D Digital Art, and Introducing 3D Digital Art. These establish essential skills in visual development, digital production, and an understanding of how games function as a creative and cultural medium. In the second year, students choose to progress either in 2D or 3D Digital Art while also studying core modules such as Co Lab: Research, Exploration and Risk-taking and Games Art Studio, which encourage experimentation and collaborative practice. Optional modules including Storyboarding, Character Ideation, Experimental Animation, Performance for Motion Capture, Tabletop Game Development, Interactive Narrative, Virtual Production, and Prop Making allow students to specialise in areas of interest and broaden their creative toolkit. In the final year, students focus on professional preparation and advanced practice through Games Entrepreneurship, Screen Arts Collaboration, and a major Games Art Project. The course emphasises both artistic creativity and technical proficiency, preparing students to produce industry-standard work. Graduates leave with a strong portfolio or showreel and are equipped for careers in the games and digital entertainment industries, including roles such as concept artist, 2D/3D artist, or environment designer.
