COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fine Art programme develops socially engaged and experimental artists who explore how creative practice can respond to global systems, communities, and environmental challenges. In the first year, students build foundational skills and critical thinking through modules such as Thinking through making, Art Ecologies 1: Global Systems and Frames, Speculative Practice, and Art Ecologies 2: Networks and Neighbourhood, which encourage them to consider how art interacts with ecological, social, and cultural systems. In the second year, students move into more independent and inquiry-led work through Inquiry led practice and Situating practice: Staging and dialogue, supported by a Co Lab module focused on research, experimentation, and creative risk-taking. They also select from optional modules including Model Making: Object and Narrative, Experimental Animation, Responding to the Visual World, Slow Making and Craftsmanship, Sound Art & Design, Live Art / Collisions, Drawing & Exploring with Natural Materials, and Ecological Futures: A Creative Response, allowing them to develop specialist interests. In the final year, students refine their artistic identity through Defining practice and artistic agency, Art Ecologies 3: Sustainable careers, and Resolved Practice Audience and Futures, where they prepare professional bodies of work. The programme emphasises sustainability, interdisciplinary practice, and critical engagement with contemporary issues. Graduates are prepared for careers as professional artists, curators, arts educators, and creative practitioners working across community, cultural, and institutional contexts.
