COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Filmmaking programme provides a practical and creative pathway into the film and screen industries, focusing on developing students into versatile filmmakers capable of working across a range of roles and formats. In the first year, students build essential skills through Craft Skills and Technologies, Storytelling and Production, Approaches to Film, and Experimental Film, gaining a strong foundation in both technical practice and creative exploration. In the second year, students advance their abilities through Film Production 1 and Film Production 2, supported by a Co Lab module that encourages research, experimentation, and creative risk-taking. They also choose from a variety of optional modules including Storyboarding: Visualising the Story, Motion Graphics, Responding to the Visual World, Digital Matte Painting, Music Video, Sound Art & Design, Prop Making, and Virtual Production, allowing them to specialise in areas of interest within film production and related creative industries. In the final year, the course is structured around the development and completion of a Graduate Film. The first half focuses on planning and a Film Personal Project, while the second half centres on production and Film Professional Futures, preparing students for industry entry. Throughout the degree, students develop practical, technical, and creative skills while working on increasingly complex projects. The programme prepares graduates for careers in directing, producing, cinematography, editing, and other creative and technical roles within film, television, and digital media industries.
