COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fashion Knitwear Design and Knitted Textiles programme develops students’ creative and technical skills in designing and producing knitted fabrics, garments, and textile-based products for fashion and interior contexts. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through Design Fundamentals and Reflection alongside Fashion Knitwear and Knitted Textile Fundamentals, where they learn essential principles of knit design, material exploration, and creative development. In the second year, students expand their understanding through Fashion Knitwear Industry and Contexts, Personal Research and Creative Exploration, and a Co Lab module focused on experimentation, research, and creative risk-taking. They can also choose from optional modules such as Slow Making and Craftsmanship, Buying, Merchandising and Product Fundamentals, Trend Forecasting, Creative Entrepreneurship, Web3 and Creative Autonomy, Drawing and Exploring with Natural Materials, Fashion Styling, and Prop Making, allowing them to broaden their knowledge of industry practices and creative approaches. In the final year, students focus on advanced creative development through Creative Practice and Theory and Creative Practice and Resolutions, where they refine their individual design identity and produce a final body of work. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to experiment with materials, techniques, and digital technologies while developing a strong understanding of sustainability, innovation, and industry relevance. The programme prepares graduates for careers in knitwear design, textile design, fashion design, product development, trend forecasting, and other roles within the global fashion and textile industries.
