COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) English and History programme combines the study of literature and history, enabling students to explore how historical events, cultural developments, and human experiences have shaped literary expression across different periods and societies. The course develops strong analytical and research skills through the examination of a wide range of literary texts and historical sources, including letters, oral testimonies, images, material culture, and archaeological evidence. Students gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between creative writing, historical narratives, and the social, political, and cultural forces that influence them. The programme explores both the past and its continuing relevance to contemporary society, addressing important themes such as sustainability, human and civil rights, identity, gender, postcolonialism, and global conflict. Teaching is designed to be inclusive, innovative, and engaging, encouraging students to think critically about historical and literary issues while making connections to current global challenges. Assessment methods are varied and creative, including essays, presentations, podcasts, videos, blogs, digital storytelling projects, reviews, and literary curation activities, helping students develop a broad range of transferable skills.
