COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Design for Theatre and Live Performance programme is structured to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills for careers in theatre, live events, and performance design. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation through modules such as Skills Passport for Performance, Introducing the Visual Narrative, Possibilities of Practice, and Theatre Context. These modules introduce the principles of visual storytelling, performance design, creative exploration, and the historical and cultural contexts of theatre and live performance. In the second year, students gain valuable industry experience through an Industry Placement and further develop their creative practice in Co Lab: Research, Exploration and Risk-taking. They can choose between Exploration and Innovation or Audience and Live Practice, allowing them to focus on experimental design approaches or audience-centred performance experiences. Students also select from a range of optional modules, including 3D Materials and Exploration, Storyboarding: Visualising the Story, Enhancing the Narrative, Millinery: Object and Narrative, Model Making: Object and Narrative, Performance for Motion Capture, Live Art/Collisions, Virtual Production, and Prop Making. These options enable students to develop specialist skills and explore different creative disciplines. In the final year, students work on Live Performance Collaboration, a Major Project in Live Performance Design, and Professional Futures, where they apply their knowledge to professional-level projects and prepare for employment. The programme equips graduates with the creative vision, technical expertise, and industry experience needed for careers in theatre design, live events, performance production, and related creative fields.
