COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Childhood and Psychology programme offers a structured curriculum that combines childhood studies with key areas of psychology, enabling students to develop a comprehensive understanding of children’s development, learning, and wellbeing. In the first year, students study modules that build essential academic and professional skills while exploring environments for learning, children’s holistic development, contemporary childhoods, and developmental psychology. These modules provide a strong foundation for understanding the experiences and needs of children from multiple perspectives. During the second year, students deepen their knowledge through modules focused on enabling environments for children and communities, researching contemporary childhoods, social constructions of childhood, global childhoods, social development in childhood and early adolescence, and research methods in psychology. This stage strengthens analytical, research, and critical thinking skills while examining childhood in both local and global contexts. In the final year, students undertake a research dissertation, allowing them to investigate a topic of personal and professional interest in depth. Additional modules explore leaderful practice, sustainable childhoods, the psychology of therapy and intervention, and the psychology of language and literacy development. The programme combines theoretical knowledge with practical research experience, helping students understand the complex factors that influence children’s lives. Through its interdisciplinary approach, the course equips graduates with valuable skills and expertise for careers in education, social care, healthcare, community services, and related professional fields, as well as further academic study.
