COURSE CURRICULUM

The Broadcast Journalism BA (Hons) programme provides students with a strong combination of practical journalism skills, media knowledge, and professional industry experience across three years of study. In the first year, students build a foundation in audio and video journalism, media law, public affairs, journalism studies, and the relationship between journalism and society. These modules introduce the core principles of news reporting, storytelling, and ethical journalism practice. During the second year, students develop advanced broadcasting and production skills through modules in broadcast news reporting, programme production, and media law for journalists. The course also includes industry-focused experiences through the Step into Industry module, helping students gain practical insight into professional broadcasting environments. Optional modules allow students to explore specialist areas such as sports journalism, political journalism, photojournalism, ethics, and media representation. In the final year, students focus on becoming professional broadcast journalists through advanced modules such as The Professional Broadcast Journalist and The News Documentary. Additional study options include podcasting, public relations and communications, magazine journalism, and media-related cultural studies. Throughout the programme, students gain experience creating content for television, radio, online platforms, and social media while using professional broadcasting facilities. Overall, the course prepares graduates for careers in journalism, broadcasting, digital media, communications, and related creative industries.
