COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animation BA (Hons) programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of animation production, creative storytelling, and digital art across three years of study. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in animation principles, animation workflows, visual effects studies, and 3D digital art. These modules introduce the technical and creative skills needed to understand the animation production process and develop artistic confidence. During the second year, students focus on more advanced production techniques through modules such as Animation Production, Animation Studio, and collaborative research and experimentation projects. A wide range of optional modules allows students to specialise in areas including storyboarding, character design, experimental animation, motion graphics, digital matte painting, motion capture performance, storytelling, and open-source 3D art. This flexibility enables students to explore different creative approaches and develop their individual artistic style. In the final year, students prepare for professional careers through advanced modules such as Animation Futures and a specialist animation project, while also choosing between animation pre-production or collaborative screen arts projects. Throughout the course, students create original animation work and develop a professional portfolio and showreel. Overall, the programme combines creativity, technical expertise, and industry-focused learning to prepare graduates for careers in animation and digital media.
