COURSE CURRICULUM

The Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (School Nursing) Postgraduate Diploma at Northumbria University is designed to develop advanced skills and knowledge for registered nurses and midwives working in school and community health. International and EU students take Academic Language Skills for PG Nursing and Midwifery students to support effective postgraduate-level communication and academic writing. The program includes Assessment, Surveillance, and Intervention for Specialist Public Health Practice, which equips students with the ability to assess the health needs of children and young people, monitor community health trends, and implement effective interventions. Transforming Community Specialist Practice through Research, Policy, Evidence and Evaluation focuses on using research, policy guidance, and evidence-based practice to improve public health services and inform decision-making. Public Health Practice Across the Life Course provides an understanding of health and wellbeing across different stages of childhood and adolescence, allowing school nurses to tailor support to meet diverse developmental and social needs. Advancing Public Health Services Through Leadership develops leadership, management, and partnership skills, enabling graduates to influence practice, coordinate multi-agency services, and promote optimal health outcomes in schools and communities. Together, these modules integrate theory, research, and practice, ensuring graduates are prepared to operate autonomously as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses, positively impacting the health and wellbeing of school-aged children and young people.
