COURSE CURRICULUM

The Renewable and Sustainable Energy Technologies MSc with Advanced Practice at Northumbria University is a two-year program designed to combine technical knowledge, research skills, and practical industry experience. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules, including Heat, Mass Transfer and Computational Fluid Dynamics, Sustainable Development for Engineering Practitioners, Technology Entrepreneurship and Product Development, Research Methods, Thermo-Mechanical Energy Conversion Systems, and Wind, Photovoltaic and Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems. International and EU students also take Academic Language Skills for Mechanical and Construction Engineering to support postgraduate-level writing and communication. These modules provide both theoretical understanding and practical skills in renewable energy systems, sustainability, innovation, and engineering analysis. In the second year, students apply their learning in the Advanced Practice Semester, gaining hands-on, industry-focused experience through consultancy-style projects, and the Research Project, which allows for independent investigation into a topic relevant to renewable energy. Together, these components equip students with the technical expertise, analytical skills, and professional experience needed to address real-world challenges in renewable energy. Graduates leave the program well-prepared for careers in the rapidly growing global renewable energy sector, with a strong combination of practical knowledge, research competence, and industry-relevant skills.
