COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering MSc with Advanced Practice is structured over two years to provide both in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical, industry-relevant experience. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules including Advanced Stress and Structural Analysis, which develops skills in evaluating and optimising mechanical structures, and Heat, Mass Transfer & Computational Fluid Dynamics, which focuses on modelling and analysing thermal and fluid systems. Sustainable Development for Engineering Practitioners addresses environmental and ethical considerations, while Engineering Optimisation and Design equips students with techniques to improve system performance. Thermo-Mechanical Energy Conversion Systems explores principles of energy generation and conversion, and Research Methods develops the analytical and methodological skills required for engineering research. A non-credit Academic Language Skills module supports international and EU students in effective academic communication. The second year integrates practical and applied experience through the Advanced Practice Semester, where students undertake a group consultancy project to solve real-world engineering challenges, gaining hands-on experience, teamwork skills, and industry insight. This is complemented by an independent Research Project, allowing students to apply theoretical and computational knowledge to investigate complex problems in mechanical engineering. Together, the program equips graduates with advanced technical expertise, practical experience, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in engineering design, analysis, consultancy, project management, or research, as well as further academic study at the doctoral level.
