COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Big Data and Data Science Technology (with Advanced Practice) is structured over two years, combining core academic modules with practical industry experience. In the first year, all modules are core and typically carry 20 credits, providing a strong foundation in data science and digital technologies. Students study Information Governance and Cyber Security to understand data protection and secure systems, and Leadership in a Digital Age to develop skills for managing innovation and organisational change. Applied Data Science focuses on analysing and interpreting complex datasets, while Contemporary Computing and Digital Technologies explores current trends in the IT sector. Big Data Analytics equips students with tools to process large-scale data, and Machine Learning on Cloud develops expertise in building and deploying scalable models using cloud platforms. The Professional Practices in Computing and Digital Technologies Project, worth 60 credits, allows students to apply their knowledge to real-world or research-based challenges. In the second year, students complete an Advanced Practice stage, choosing from options such as consultancy projects, research projects, internships, professional skills practice, business start-ups, or design innovation, each worth 60 credits. This stage enhances employability by providing practical experience, preparing graduates for careers in data science, analytics, and technology-driven industries.
