COURSE CURRICULUM

The Renewable and Sustainable Energy Technologies MSc at Northumbria University is structured around a series of core modules that provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in sustainable energy and engineering. International and EU students take the Academic Language Skills for Mechanical and Construction Engineering module to support postgraduate-level writing and communication. The program begins with foundational engineering modules such as Heat, Mass Transfer and Computational Fluid Dynamics, which develop analytical and technical expertise. Sustainable Development for Engineering Practitioners introduces environmental and societal considerations in engineering, while Technology Entrepreneurship and Product Development focuses on innovation, commercialisation, and the development of engineering solutions. Research Methods equips students with the skills to plan, conduct, and analyse scientific research, preparing them for the Research Project, which forms the capstone of the program and allows for independent investigation into a renewable energy topic. Technical modules include Thermo-Mechanical Energy Conversion Systems, covering energy generation technologies, and Wind, Photovoltaic and Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems, which provide hands-on understanding of key renewable energy systems. Together, these modules ensure students gain a comprehensive understanding of modern renewable energy technologies, sustainable engineering practices, and professional research skills. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in the growing renewable energy sector, equipped with the knowledge, practical experience, and technical expertise demanded by industry.
