COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering MSc is structured around a comprehensive set of core modules designed to develop advanced technical knowledge, analytical skills, and practical expertise in engineering. Students begin with Academic Language Skills for Mechanical and Construction Engineering, a non-credit module supporting international and EU students in academic communication. Advanced Stress and Structural Analysis equips students with techniques to assess and optimise structural performance under various conditions, while Heat, Mass Transfer & Computational Fluid Dynamics focuses on the principles and computational methods required to model energy and fluid systems. Sustainable Development for Engineering Practitioners addresses ethical, environmental, and sustainability considerations, ensuring graduates can contribute responsibly to engineering practice. Engineering Optimisation and Design teaches strategies for improving design efficiency and effectiveness across mechanical systems, and Thermo-Mechanical Energy Conversion Systems examines energy generation and conversion processes in modern engineering applications. Research Methods develops the analytical and methodological skills necessary for applied engineering research, culminating in the Research Project, where students undertake an independent investigation integrating theory, computation, and practical problem-solving. Together, these modules provide a balanced curriculum that combines rigorous engineering principles with applied practice, preparing graduates for careers in design, analysis, project management, consultancy, and research, as well as offering a foundation for advanced academic study at the doctoral level.
