COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Cyber Security program is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of cyber security principles and practical skills, with all modules carrying 20 credits unless otherwise stated and a 60-credit project providing an in-depth, hands-on experience. Students begin by studying information governance and security, gaining knowledge of data protection, regulatory compliance, and organisational policies to safeguard sensitive information. Network security and wireless networks and security modules develop the technical skills required to secure wired and wireless infrastructures, defend against cyber attacks, and implement robust network protocols. Information assurance and risk management focuses on identifying potential threats, assessing vulnerabilities, and applying strategies to minimise organisational risks. Ethical hacking for cyber security introduces students to penetration testing, vulnerability analysis, and simulated attacks, enabling them to proactively detect and address security weaknesses. Research methods and project management prepare students for independent study, developing analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills necessary for effective project execution. The program culminates in the MSc Computer Science and Digital Technologies project, a substantial research or applied project that allows students to apply their learning to real-world cyber security challenges. Overall, the MSc Cyber Security equips graduates with technical expertise, critical thinking, and professional competence, preparing them for careers as security analysts, network security engineers, ethical hackers, or information assurance specialists in an increasingly digital and security-focused industry.
