COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sleep and Chronobiology MRes at Northumbria University is structured around core modules that provide both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills in the study of sleep and circadian rhythms. Students begin with Circadian Rhythms and Sleep, which introduces the biological mechanisms underlying the body clock and sleep processes, and Data Analysis in Sleep and Circadian Research, equipping students with statistical and computational skills to interpret complex research data. Skills and Techniques in Sleep and Circadian Research provides hands-on training in experimental design, laboratory methods, and professional research practices, while Circadian Rhythms and Sleep Disorders focuses on the applied and clinical aspects of sleep science, exploring common sleep disorders and their underlying mechanisms. The program culminates in an extended Thesis, where students undertake an independent research project, applying their theoretical understanding and technical expertise to a topic of personal or professional interest.
