COURSE CURRICULUM

The Arts MRes curriculum is structured around a set of core modules designed to support the development of advanced research skills and independent study. The central component of the program is the MRes Dissertation, a 90-credit module that allows students to undertake a substantial piece of original research or a combination of practical work and written analysis, forming the main focus of their studies. This is complemented by Research Development, which guides students in refining their research proposals, planning their projects, and managing their progress effectively. Research Methods provides essential training in appropriate methodologies, enabling students to select and apply suitable approaches to their chosen field of study. Critical Contexts helps students situate their research within broader theoretical, cultural, and academic frameworks, encouraging critical analysis and deeper understanding of their subject area. International and EU students may also take Academic Language Skills for Social Sciences and Humanities to enhance their academic communication, although this module carries no credits. Together, these modules create a comprehensive framework that supports both theoretical and practical research, equipping students with the analytical, organisational, and communication skills required for advanced academic work, doctoral study, or professional careers in the arts, culture, and creative industries.
