COURSE CURRICULUM

The International Relations, Conflict and Security MA curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of global conflict, security, and international relations through a set of core modules. International Law and Global Justice introduces the legal frameworks and ethical considerations that shape global governance and justice systems. Contemporary Challenges in Conflict and Security focuses on current global issues such as terrorism, political instability, and emerging security threats, while Theorising International Relations, Conflict and Security develops a strong foundation in key theories used to analyse global events. European Internal Security Governance examines how security is managed within Europe, including institutional and policy responses to threats. Students are also supported through Academic Language Skills for Social Sciences, particularly for international and EU learners, to strengthen academic communication. The program culminates in a 60-credit International Relations Postgraduate Dissertation, where students conduct independent research on a topic of their choice under academic supervision. This allows them to apply theoretical knowledge and research skills to real-world issues. Overall, the course combines theoretical insight with practical analysis, preparing graduates for careers in policy, international organisations, government, and research, while equipping them with the skills to understand and address complex global security challenges.
