COURSE CURRICULUM

The Digital and Immersive Arts MA at Northumbria University combines theoretical understanding and practical skills to prepare students for careers in creative technology and immersive media. The program is structured around core modules that develop expertise in research, immersive media, and the creation of virtual experiences. In the Research for Practitioners module, students build critical research skills, exploring methodologies and approaches relevant to creative and technological practice. Introduction to Immersive Media provides foundational knowledge of current tools, techniques, and emerging technologies, allowing students to understand the possibilities and limitations of digital and immersive art. The Creating Virtual and Immersive Experiences module emphasizes hands-on practice, enabling students to design, develop, and evaluate projects in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality contexts, applying theoretical concepts in practical settings. The Major Project serves as the capstone of the program, allowing students to undertake a substantial, independent creative or research project that showcases their technical proficiency, creativity, and critical thinking. Additionally, international and EU students benefit from Academic Language Skills support, ensuring they can communicate effectively in professional and academic contexts.
