COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Creative and Cultural Industries Management at Northumbria University combines core modules with optional pathways to provide a comprehensive understanding of the creative and cultural sectors. Core modules include Framing the Creative Industries, which introduces key concepts, theories, and practices shaping the sector, and Leadership and Management in the Cultural and Creative Industries, which develops skills in managing creative organisations and projects. The program culminates in a 60-credit Cultural and Creative Industries Management Portfolio-Dissertation, allowing students to undertake independent research and apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies according to specific interests and career goals, such as Creative Industry Business Start-up, Work Placement, Music, Festivals & Events, Cultural Heritage and Museums, Galleries and Visual Arts, The Arts, City Development and Rural Planning, and Curating Asian Art. These options provide practical, hands-on experience and specialised insight into niche areas of the creative sector. International and EU students may also access the Academic Language Skills module to support academic communication, although it carries no credits. Through this combination of theoretical study, research, and practical experience, students develop critical thinking, strategic planning, and leadership abilities, preparing them for diverse careers in creative and cultural management, entrepreneurship, and leadership roles across museums, galleries, festivals, and other cultural organisations.
