COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law (Criminal Justice) LLM program offers a comprehensive set of modules designed to develop advanced legal knowledge and research skills. It begins with Academic Language Skills for PG Law Students, a non-credit core module tailored for international and EU students to strengthen their legal English and academic communication. Research for Advanced Legal Studies builds essential research techniques, preparing students for in-depth legal analysis. The Legal Research Project, a major 60-credit component, allows students to independently explore a specialised area of interest within criminal justice. The course also includes focused subject modules such as Terrorism, the Rule of Law and Democracy, which examines the balance between security and civil liberties, and Youth Justice, which explores legal responses to young offenders. Criminal Justice and Forensic Science introduces the role of scientific evidence in investigations and trials, while Comparative Law of Evidence analyses how different legal systems approach evidence. Theories of Punishment critically evaluates the philosophical and practical justifications of punishment. Together, these modules provide a well-rounded understanding of criminal justice systems, combining theoretical insight with practical and research-based learning to prepare students for professional or academic careers.
