COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bar Course LLM curriculum is structured around core modules that develop essential legal knowledge and practical skills required for professional practice at the Bar. Core modules, each typically worth 20 credits, include Criminal Litigation and Civil Litigation, which cover key procedures, evidence, and case preparation in both criminal and civil law. Professional Practice and Ethics focuses on the ethical responsibilities and standards expected of barristers, ensuring students understand their duties within the legal system. Criminal, Family, and Civil Professional Practice modules provide practical training in handling cases across different areas of law, allowing students to apply legal principles in realistic scenarios and develop advocacy, drafting, and client interaction skills. To achieve the LLM qualification, students can choose between two optional 60-credit pathways: the LLM Bar Project, which involves a traditional dissertation exploring a specific legal topic in depth, or the LLM SLO Bar Project, which combines practical experience in the Student Law Office with an extended written project. Together, these modules integrate theoretical understanding with hands-on experience, enabling students to refine their legal reasoning, research, and professional skills. The program prepares graduates for pupillage and early legal practice, equipping them with the confidence and competence required to succeed in the competitive legal profession.
