COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law (Extended Degree) LLB (Hons) at Northumbria University offers a structured and flexible pathway designed to develop both foundational knowledge and specialized expertise in law. The foundation year introduces students to core concepts such as law and society, law and ethics, academic practice, law in action, and project-based learning, equipping them with essential skills for higher-level study. In the first year, students engage with fundamental areas including criminal law, contract law, tort law, and the English legal system, alongside professional practice modules and academic language support for international students. The second year expands legal knowledge through core subjects such as land law, public law, managing people across borders, and evidence for the practitioner, while offering a wide range of optional modules covering human rights, property issues, jurisprudence, animal law, law and literature, and law in media and technology. Opportunities for study abroad and practical placements enhance international and professional perspectives. In the final year, students can specialize in diverse areas including equity and trusts, intellectual property, commercial and employment law, medical and family law, international law, maritime, aviation, fashion law, and law clinics, including policy reform and student law office projects. Throughout the degree, students develop critical thinking, legal reasoning, research, and practical skills, preparing them for careers in law, further study, and real-world professional practice.
