COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law (Extended Degree) LLB (Hons) at Northumbria University offers a comprehensive and flexible curriculum designed to develop both foundational and advanced legal knowledge alongside practical skills. The foundation year introduces students to core concepts, including law and society, law and ethics, academic practice, law in action, and project-based learning, providing a strong basis for higher-level study. In the first year, students cover essential areas such as criminal law, contract law, tort law, and the English legal system, while also developing professional practice skills and academic language proficiency. The second year expands into core subjects like land law, public law, human rights, and evidence for the practitioner, while offering a wide range of optional modules including inquests, animal law, law and literature, and technology regulation, allowing students to tailor their studies to individual interests. Opportunities for study abroad further enhance international perspectives. The final year provides extensive specialization and practical experience through optional modules in areas such as equity and trusts, intellectual property, commercial contracts, medical and family law, international law, refugee law, maritime and aviation law, and law clinics, including the Student Law Office and policy reform clinics.
