COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Management BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University is a comprehensive four-year program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for careers in the global sports industry. In the first year, students develop foundational expertise through core modules in academic and professional skills, research methods, sport management principles, marketing, finance and governance, and social issues in sport, with academic language support for international and EU students. The second year builds on this foundation by focusing on applied and strategic management skills, including research design, professional development, sport leadership, and strategic business planning, with optional modules covering digital marketing, analytics, physical activity, school sport, and opportunities for studying abroad. The third year offers students the choice of a full-year study abroad experience or a work placement in sport, providing practical, real-world exposure. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a substantial undergraduate project, core modules in sport event management and facility operations, and optional modules in areas such as global sport business, applied coaching, health and behaviour change, equity, diversity and inclusion, third sector sport management, and career development. Across all years, the program combines academic study with practical application, ensuring graduates develop both specialist knowledge and transferable skills, preparing them for a wide range of roles in the dynamic and evolving sports industry.
