COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport, Exercise and Nutrition BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University is a four-year program that develops scientific knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience for careers in sport, exercise, and nutrition. In the first year, students build foundational understanding through core modules in psychology, human physiology, anatomy and biomechanics, energetics of exercise, research methods, and academic and professional skills, with academic language support for international and EU students. The second year focuses on applied and interdisciplinary learning, covering research design, professional development, applied sport and exercise nutrition, and nutrition for health, alongside optional modules in performance assessment, exercise and health assessment, extreme physiology, performance analysis, strength and conditioning, physical activity, business, marketing, analytics, and the opportunity to study abroad. The third year offers full-year optional experiences through a study abroad program or a work placement, providing real-world exposure and practical application of skills. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a substantial undergraduate project and a core module in contemporary sport and exercise nutrition, while selecting from optional modules in exercise and health intervention strategies, human movement science, paediatric exercise, training physiology, psychological skills, injury and rehabilitation, talent identification, sport event management, coaching, global sport business, professional development, and health behaviour change. The program integrates laboratory work, research, and practical training to prepare graduates for a wide range of careers in sport, exercise, and health.
