COURSE CURRICULUM

The Real Estate BSc (Hons) program at Northumbria University provides students with a thorough understanding of the real estate sector, combining academic knowledge with practical skills. In the first year, students study the evolution of the built environment, development and construction economics, construction technology, law for surveyors, property surveying, and professional practice, with academic language support offered for international and EU students. These modules establish a solid foundation in core surveying and real estate principles, preparing students for more advanced study. In the second year, the program develops expertise in urban planning and development, applied valuation, property asset management, property agency and market research, real estate economics, and business and professional development, further enhancing analytical, financial, and management skills. The third year offers an optional work placement or study abroad experience, providing opportunities to gain real-world professional experience, apply theoretical knowledge in practical contexts, and develop global awareness in real estate practices. The final year focuses on advanced topics including commercial real estate appraisal, real estate development, corporate real estate management, and real estate investment and finance, alongside a surveying dissertation that allows students to demonstrate research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped to pursue careers in property management, investment, development, appraisal, and other professional roles in the real estate industry.
